Our mission is to promote and further develop the culture of remembrance on topics relating to the history of National Socialism in the state of Lower Saxony. We support memorials, initiatives and other organisations that are dedicated to researching, documenting and communicating Nazi history, including its prehistory and post-history, and commemorating the victims of Nazi crimes.
Every year, the state of Lower Saxony provides the Lower Saxony Memorials Foundation with funds that we use to support memorial sites and Nazi-related places of remembrance and projects in Lower Saxony. The Foundation supports up to 50% of the total costs of each project.
The staff of the "Lower Saxony Memorials Development department" are available as competent contacts for places of remembrance, associations and initiatives, academics and interested individuals, monument conservation authorities, local authorities and educational organisations. We are happy to support you in all matters relating to the reappraisal, documentation, research and communication of Nazi history.
We offer training courses on memorial-related topics and are available as contacts and advisors for local authorities, academia and civil society. We organise academic conferences and events for historical and political education. We develop special exhibitions and educational materials as well as formats for the digital culture of remembrance, also in cooperation with external partners.
