Particularly since 7 October 2023 and the subsequent war in the Gaza Strip, classic anti-Semitism - often disguised as criticism of Israel's military actions - has visibly increased. We can see from attacks like this that this anti-Semitism is not limited to words and that fantasies of destruction are followed by terrorist attacks.
We are shocked by this cold-blooded attack, especially because one of those killed in Sydney was Holocaust survivor Alex Kleytman. The attack shows how deeply rooted anti-Semitism is in global society, even 80 years after National Socialism.
We stand with the victims of Sydney. And we appeal to politicians and civil society to take a firm stance against all forms of anti-Semitism and to stand up for the protection of Jewish life.
