Archival Collection in Celle
In the archival Collection in Celle, we record and document all available information on our subject areas.
The staff of the Research and Documentation Centre conduct research in institutions abroad and in central archives in Germany. Relevant records in state archives and research institutes, holdings of international aid organisations and collections of survivors' associations are evaluated. The information they contain on resistance and persecution, deportation and forced labour, camps and crime scenes on the territory of Lower Saxony is recorded and documented.
This includes, for example, documents from the "Wehrmacht" or Schutzstaffel SS ("Protection Squadron"), the labour and civil administration, investigation and trial documents from the British military authorities, interviews and eyewitness accounts.
Reproductions (copies, microfilms, scans) of a large proportion of the materials identified have been obtained and can be viewed on the premises of the Lower Saxony Memorials Foundation in Celle. These documents are organised according to provenance and original signature. In addition, the Collection has numerous thematic holdings, private estates and external collections, photos and albums as well as a few original sources.
